Spielberg made his film almost entirely in Kraków and its surroundings.The rich history enabled the film makers to make use of many authentic locations.

The site of the former ghetto in Podgórze has changed profoundly, so Spielberg chose to film in the old Jewish quarter of Kazimierz.

This picture shows the balconies in the courtyard from where the suitcases were thrown down in the scene in Spielberg's movie in which the Podgórze Ghetto is liquidated.
